Amazon Prime Video adds Watch Party feature to smart TVs

Users will now be able to watch titles with everyone from almost every device that supports Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video, the OTT streaming platform, has recently extended the availability of its Watch Party feature on smart TVs, gaming consoles like PlayStation or Xbox and streaming devices like Roku.

For those unversed, Amazon Prime Video’s Watch Party feature allows users to watch a TV show or movie with friends or families remotely. The feature was earlier available on Fire TV devices, desktops, and the Prime Video app on Android and iOS.

However, now users will be able to watch titles with everyone from almost every device that supports Prime Video.

Amazon started to test the Watch Parties Feature with selected users on Twitch first earlier. In the subsequent year, when the pandemic began, it unveiled this feature as Watch Party on Amazon Prime Video.

Credible sources cite that, last year, it further extended its support for the Watch Party feature to Fire TV devices, so users could enjoy watching sessions with a bigger image on the big screen.

According to the firm, Prime Video Watch Party offers a captivating experience to share with family, friends, and other Prime Video users.

A host gets to start the party by sharing the party link, letting around 100 people to join in on the fun and chat during the movie or show.

Amazon is not the only firm that has introduced a social viewing feature in the last few years. Earlier HBO collaborated with a browser extension provider known as Hulu and Scener to unveil its coordinated watching feature for viewers of its “No Ads” plan.

However, Netflix does not have such a function as people co-watch streamed titles via the Netflix Party (now retitled Teleparty) browser extension.
