Tesla ties up with other companies for installing solar roof tiles

Tesla has reportedly started partnering with other companies for the purpose of installing and deploying solar roof tiles at a faster pace. The company had earlier rolled out the 3rd version of its Solar Roof tiles in the month of October the previous year. While the product is presently called Solarglass, it has witnessed a remarkable price reduction through faster installation and optimization.

Sources cite that Gigafactory New York, one of the manufacturers of solar tiles, had earlier reported on Tesla trying to hire several new roofers for capacity expansion, continuing its search for certified third-party installers for the installation of its novel solar product. While the company has only heard of very few organizations being onboarded onto the initiative, the scenario might be about to change in the light of Tesla starting to furnish them with the tiles, state sources.

According to Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, Tesla has been planning to advance the installation and production of roof tops since the rolling out of the new version of the tiles. The company had reportedly announced in March that Gigafactory New York was manufacturing enough solar tiles for the installation of 1,000 solar roofs every week.

However, Gigafactory has based that assertion on the production of 4 MW of solar tiles, which is really not sufficient for 1,000 roofs. Yet, the company has more as compared to what Tesla can install in a week given that the installation capacity remains a major bottleneck for the expansion of solar roofs, cite sources.

Tesla has also certified Sunpro, another large U.S. solar installer to initiate the installation of Tesla solar roof. Musk has explained that Tesla will have the installation crews grapple at a new test structure at the Fremont facility and examine as to who installs the new solar tiles at a better and faster pace.
