Shannon provides safe & reusable thermal blanket insulation for NDS

Shannon Global Energy Solutions, a leading designer and builder of reusable thermal & acoustic insulation, along with Calpacific Equipment Company, that distributes hot water and steam equipment and systems, have recently installed a reusable and thermal blanket insulation system on a Davis-Standard extruder that is run by NDS, Inc.
NDS is a leading firm that provides stormwater management products and manufacturer of effective irrigation as well as flow-management products.
NDS usually utilizes the extruder in order to manufacture polyethylene irrigation tubing. The company supplies a comprehensive network of consumer brands like Raindrip, through Menards, True Value and Lowe’s, among various others.
NDS conducted a safety-risk evaluation on its extruder and understood that while workers swap dyes & pins in order to produce different sizes of pipe, they tend to get extremely close to the extruder heads of the machine that is capable of reaching temperatures of around 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
NDS had contacted Calpacific who measured and surveyed the extruder and confirmed that Shannon could produce custom reusable blankets for the heads of the extruder.
Charles Eisenhauer, NDS plant manager said that the blanket surface temperature was down to 127 degrees Fahrenheit once the extruders used the blankets over their heads. The heaters did not work much to keep the polyethylene at an ideal temperature with the blankets over their heads, as the heaters kept cycling off and on more. Eisenhauer added that it proved to be energy saving for the company. 
Calpacific Equipment Company’s president Dennis Welsch stated that the Shannon blanket insulation will help a covered surface reduce heat loss by about 85%. This project helped NDS achieve its goals of improving safety. The energy payback that the investments in blanket shall, however, be lesser than 12 months. The savings shall continue up to the blanket’s life which can also be up to 30 years.
