GE Renewable Energy installs, authorizes two wind farms in Turkey

GE Renewable Energy has reportedly announced that it has completed the installation and authorization of the 32 MW Meryem and 53 MW Kirazli wind farms located in Turkey. The commissioning forms part of a year ago bigger agreement for the supply of five wind farms with RT Enerji and Turkerler.

According to Kazim Turker, the Chairman of the Board of Turkerler, and Ramazan Tas, the Chairman of the Board of RT Enerji, the synergy from the RT-Turkerler collaboration has emerged in their work in association with the Turkey team and GE’s headquarters.

They have further stated that GE is commissioning Kirazli and Meryem wind power plants adding that the company is not just a supplier but also a solution partner in this meaningful journey. GE’s portfolio of 158 MW comprises these two projects and benefits from local content incentive and tariff guarantee, stated Tas and Turker.

The five onshore wind farms, comprising Sile, Meryem, Kirazli, Mahmut Sevket, and Pamukova feature forty-nine of GE’s 3 MW onshore wind turbines, state sources. The overall 158 MW capacity of the wind farms will additionally deliver renewable energy and power as many as 183,000 homes in the region.

Manar Al-Moneef, the CEO of Onshore Wind MENAT at GE Renewable Energy, has stated that GE is excited to initiate new wind energy projects and add renewable energy to the country through its installed base of over 1.2 GW and 500 wind turbines in the region. He has further highlighted that 2020 is an extremely crucial year for the Turkish wind industry provided the Feed-In-Tariff is in place. The company feels proud to take part of this momentum, in collaboration with RT Enerji and Turkerler, stated Al-Moneef.

As per reports, the Kirazli wind farm is situated at the top of a hill, winding the 20-kilometer rural road that crosses villages and farms. This has been responsible for presenting significant technical challenges in the installation of the wind farm, state sources.
